What is the Workforce Training Fund?
Funds are available through the Workforce Training Fund to pay half of the cost of certain approved courses. The Workforce Training Fund is a state fund financed entirely by Massachusetts's employers. Its purpose is to provide resources to Massachusetts businesses and workers to train current and newly hired employees.

There are two types of grants that are available to employers:

- Workforce Training Fund Express is targeted to small employers - with 50 employees or less -- and labor organizations. Applicants must choose a training course or program from a pre-approved training directory.

- The Workforce Training Fund General Program is designed for large and small businesses, labor and business organizations. Applications requesting more than $50,000 are by deadline and are reviewed by and advisory panel of business and labor leaders. Dale Carnegie Training approved vendor.

Here are the rules that govern the application for Express Grants:
- The maximum grant amount is $15,000 annually
- Application can be made anytime. There are no deadlines.
- Grant decisions are made within 21 days from filing the application
- For businesses with 50 or fewer employees and labor organizations.
- The business or labor organization must pay at least 50 percent of the training costs.
- Business or labor organization will be reimbursed for 50 percent of the total cost of training after the training is completed.
- Training cost must be selected from the pre-approved list of venders. The full list is available at www.detma.org.
- Portion of training financed with Express funds cannot exceed $3,000 per trainee.
- All trainees must be employed in Massachusetts. (They are not required to live in the state.)
- Trainees must not be government employees.
- All Training must be job-related.
- Training must start six weeks to six months of the grant award.
- Training last no more than 12 months.
